Book Description
Children will love learning their 1-2-3s with this jumbo book that's chock-full of wonderful, interactive elements. They can lift the flaps and peek inside five boxcars...turn the wheel to find eight fish....touch the nine fluffy ducklings...and more!
Publisher's Weekly
My First Jumbo Book of Numbers by James Diaz and Melanie Gerth pulls out all the stops when it comes to teaching numbers one to 10. For the number one ("building"), die-cut windows show the residents; a lift of the flap reveals an elevator that slides up and down; and a tab pulls a car out of a garage.
Children's Literature
The cover says it all. "It's totally interactive!" and "With sturdy lift-up flaps, touch-and-feels, movable parts, and a pop-up, too!" It is certainly a very busy book. Indeed, it just tries to do too much. The first double-page spread covers the first four numbers. Each number is given a half page, and they are separated by a thick black line. Subsequent numbers (5 to 10) are each given a single page. Each numeral has several items that represent it. For example, the number six has six frogs, six bees that slide down to the beehive, six birthday candles and six teddy bears, one of which has a soft furry fabric belly. The train is well done. There are five boxcars on the page for "5" and they are connected to the engine, shown on "6" for a total of six cars on the train. The big surprise is the oversized pop-up bunny on the last page that unfolds beyond the top and bottom of the book. There are five double-page spreads in the book. They are a heavy card stock to accommodate the flaps and movable parts. Learning numbers will take second place to the activities here. 2002, Cartwheel Books. |
