Synopsis
In this second House-Mouse adventure, these five furry friends decide to throw a party in the house. With much preparation and a lot of the usual mischief, the mice gather up their animal friends for a rollicking good time. From tying bows on bits of cheese to sneaking donuts and soda, these mice make themselves right at home. The adorable art and simple, rhyming text make this book an enjoyable and entertaining read aloud.
Publisher's Weekly
Ellen Jareckie's House-Mouse Tales presents two new titles: A Mouse in the House and A House-Mouse Party. The first reveals all the small signs that one may have some unexpected visitors, from crackers stuffed into a piggy bank to a donut rolling downhill (with a little rodent riding in the hole). In the second, these frolicsome creatures whip up a grand to-do complete with balloons, bands and tasty bon-bons. The pastel-hued watercolor-and-ink illustrations appear against an elegant cream background.
Children's Literature
The mice are having a grand time. There is a party in progress and they are getting all decked out with party hats, face painting and fancy dress. The rock band playing on a stage of rocks is going full bore. Presents are being wrapped and there is lots of delicious food to eat. One page shows a variety of cheeses with another mouse snapping a picture of his friends posed in front of these delicacies. Every goody you can imagine including soda, cake and ice cream are available. It is a wonder that they don't all get sick from overeating or suffer from a sugar overload. The party does not seem to have any specific purpose, a good time for all the cute little mice. 2003, Little Brown, Ages 1 to 3. - Marilyn Courtot
