오늘은 이 세상 모든 어린 아이들의 꿈이 이루어 지는 날. 오늘 하루 만큼은 하고 싶은 모든 것을 마음대로 할 수 있는 "Yes Day"예요.

주인공 꼬마는 아침에 일어나자 마자 달력을 보고는 "Yes!!!"라고 소리칩니다. 그리고는 평상시에는 하지 못했던 일들을 마음껏 하네요....

아침식사는 피자 한 판!
머리에는 헤어젤을 발라서 멋을 내고,
방 청소도 오늘은 안해도 되고,
슈퍼에 가서는 먹고 싶은 것들을 마음껏 카트에 담고,
장 보고 집에 돌아가는 길에 아이스크림도 사달라고 하고,
점심은 집밖에 나가서 먹고,
엄마 아빠랑 음식 던지기 놀이도 하고,
아빠에게 목말도 태워달라고 하고,
저녁에는 친구 마리오를 데려와서 함께 먹고,
밤 늦게까지 자지 않고 아빠와 함께 TV시청도 하고...

아쉽지만 이제 잠자리에서 오늘 하루를 마감할 시간이네요. 내년 이 날을 기다리면서...

그동안 평상시에는 금기시 되었던 일들을 마음껏 하는 주인공의 모습에서 아이들의 속마음을 엿볼 수 있습니다. 우리집 아이는 이런 Yes Day가 있다면 무엇을 하고 싶어할까요? 마지막 페이지의 달력에는 매일매일 "안돼" 소리를 듣고 사는 아이의 마음이 잘 표현되어 있네요.

Lichtenheld's bright and funny cartoons bring the story to life, with character expressions that are right on the mark. Endpapers show a calendar filled with familiar and amusing ways to say "no" that are heard on a daily basis, with the exception, of course, on Yes Day. Children will find Rosenthal and Lichtenheld's third collaboration irresistible. Yes!

The word no is ubiquitous in kids’ lives. Rosenthal imagines what it would be like if for just one day adults said yes to everything children asked. The young protagonist poses a series of questions, which are answered in humorous illustrations. “Can I use your hair gel?” the child asks. A flip of the page shows the family posing for a photo with the kid’s hair in spiky triangles. The exuberant cartoon drawings take the child through the day, from pizza for breakfast to picking out junk food at the store to staying up really late. Young readers will pick up on a street sign declaring “No saying no.” The highlight of the book comes from the somber blue endpapers, which feature a monthly calendar that names a litany of days including No Way, Jose Day; Don’t Even Ask Day; and Ixnay Ayday (for pig-latinophiles).
