2003년도에 출간한 유아용 첫발견 First Discovery Look And Learn Book 시리즈입니다. Look And Learn 시리즈는 총 4권으로 구성되어 있으며 펼쳐지는 플랩을 이용해 아이들에게 살아있는 자연의 모습을 보여줍니다.
이 책은 아이들에게 해변, 바다속, 깊은 심해, 북극 바다, 태평양에 사는 다양한 물고기 및 동식물에 관한 모든 것을 쉬운 문장과 선명한 사진으로 설명해줍니다.
생각만 해도 마음이 시원해지는 바다에 사는 동식물의 다양한 모습을 손쉽게 구경할 수 있습니다. 1/3정도 크기의 플랩을 젖히면 다양한 어종의 물고기와 그외의 동물 그리고 식물들에 대한 자세한 정보가 나옵니다.

판지를 천이나 가죽으로 감싸기도 합니다. 책의 속지는 일반적으로 중성처리된 종이(Acid-free paper)를 사용해서 잘 변질이 되지 않기 때문에 오랫동안 보관하기에 적합합니다. 이 종류의 책은 더스트 재킷, 또는 더스트 커버로 불리는 표지덮개가 함께 있는 경우가 많습니다. 간혹 내부 속지가 콩기름 코팅이 된 경우 고약한 냄새가 나는 책도 있습니다.

Book Description
Look-and-Learn At The Ocean introduces young children to various creatures and plantlife on the shore and in the waters of the ocean. The book contains 24 pages with dazzling art depicting various scenes, each one realistically painted with bright, bold, vivid colors. There are detailed scenes of tiny creatures that live in the sand, sea birds, and all kinds of fascinating fish and sea creatures. Each spread is designed with a foldout page. When children open the fold, they will uncover illustrations.
Children's Literature
Young children can explore the ocean with this "First Discovery Look and Learn" book. Each two-page spread is a full-color illustration of one aspect of ocean life such as the beach, the Mediterranean Sea or Arctic Ocean. The spreads have a one to two sentence description and then the child can lift the flap for additional illustrations and information on the animals and vegetation. For example, the coral reef page shows a side view of a coral reef and then under the flap the reader can learn about hawksbill turtle, sea urchins, lionfish, and leopard moray. The spread of the bottom of the ocean is especially interesting with its unusual looking fish and the giant squid.
