An extremely likable puppy stars in these two books. Bright colors and bold cartoon lines show Jack enjoying the wonders of a preschooler's world, while well-placed flaps and tabs allow children to manipulate the story. In Rainy Day, Jack splashes in puddles, only to drop his beloved teddy in the water. After spending some time in the washing machine, teddy is as good as new and ready for a cuddle. In Sunny Day, the little dog dons sunscreen and sunglasses, then heads outside to splash in the wading pool, play in the sandbox, and have a yummy Popsicle. The stories are appealing in their simplicity, and the tabs and flaps are sturdy enough to stand up to repeated use. Everything about these books, from the thick lines, to the sunny palette, to the hefty construction, appears to have been designed with little fingers in mind. Jack is sure to find a home in libraries serving toddlers. |
