For the most part, this Pre-Level 1 reader in the "Ready-to-Read" series has three word sentences on each page and the text can be decoded just by looking at the pictures. It is bedtime but Piggley, Dannan (duck) and Ferny (cow) are not really ready to sleep. They try to play and Piggy's father lets them know that is not acceptable behavior. Next it is a snack or just some fun. Each time Piggy's dad says "Time for bed!" They finally do go to sleep and then it is morning—"Time to get up!" but this sleepover crew does not seem ready for the wakeup call. Some of the pictures are pretty dark and do not stand out clearly on the pages—in some cases they even look a little muddy—perhaps that is due to the quality of the original source material or the printing process. |
