Annotation
The Dumb Bunnies have a very active day, during which they do many things backwards or wrong.
From the Publisher
Only a dumb bunny would go to the beach in the rain. In this hilariously chaotic tale, Poppa, Momma, and Baby Bunny leave their very silly home to have some soggy fun at the shore. The Dumb Bunnies can be seen on the CBS-TV Saturday morning line-up. Full color.
Publisher's Weekly

School Library Journal
K-Gr 3-The Dumb Bunnies are, well, dumb. While Momma and Poppa watch the Orange Bowl and the Super Bowl, Baby watches the Toilet Bowl. When it begins to rain, they decide it is a perfect day to go to the beach. They pack sack lunches, pouring soup into paper bags; they literally buy a tub of popcorn at the movies. There is little plot here, only a cycle of puns and jokes. The humor is unsophisticated and, like Harry Allard and James Marshall's "The Stupids" (Houghton), it is likely to irritate many adults and delight children. Pilkey's illustrations extend the text. The family members-Momma with her cat's-eye glasses, Poppa in his flower-sprigged briefs, and all with huge front teeth-look extremely absurd, yet somehow cheerful. While adults in these enlightened days may feel uneasy about humor at the expense of the supposedly less intellectually gifted, fools and simpletons have a long history in folklore, and children with just enough experience of the world to feel superior will find the Dumb Bunnies funny.-Karen James, Louisville Free Public Library, KY
Booklist
Ages 6^-8. The spirit of James Marshall's Stupids is here, with words and robust visuals carefully calculated to produce the jokes. But this slapstick tale, in which the eccentric rabbit family visits the beach, then causes havoc in town, isn't as successful as Dumb Bunnies' Easter. Sometimes the humor hits the mark just right, but at other times it seems more calculated to grown-ups than children (movie posters outside a theater promote "Citizen Candy Kane" ). Kids accustomed to taking things literally may find the book's quirky surprises a delicious change, but adults should still be prepared to do some explaining. Stephanie Zvirin
Midwest Book Review
Three dumb bunnies decide to go to the beach during a storm and have a grand time blowing up inflatable rafts, combing the beach, and fishing for a boat's treasures. When the sun comes out the dumb bunnies decide the weather's turned in this whimsical story of a rabbit family too dumb to follow the norm. |
