책을 열면 3차원의 입체그림이 펼쳐지는 책입니다. 그림이 실제 모습과 같이 입체적으로 튀어나오기 때문에 어린 아이들의 흥미를 유발하기에 좋으며, 탭이나 플랩과 같이 사용해서 그림을 움직이게 하는 경우도 있습니다. 물리적인 힘을 이용해 작동하므로 조심스럽게 다뤄야 한다는 단점이 있을 수 있습니다.

2009년에 나로호를 발사해서 본격적인 우주개발 국가의 대열에 동참하는 우리나라의 어린 아이들에게 미지의 우주를 탐사하는 꿈과 희망을 심어줄 수 있는 멋진 책입니다.
이 책에 포함된 내용은 아래와 같습니다.
1. 우주선 발사
첫 페이지를 열면 화염을 내뿜으며 하늘로 치솟는 커다란 우주선의 모습이 독자들의 눈을 사로 잡습니다. 오른쪽 상단에 꽂혀 있는 소책자에는 로케트 개발의 역사와 위대한 과학자들의 업적을 소개하고 있습니다.
2. 우주 유영과 다단계 로케트의 구조
다음 페이지를 열면 우주인이 우주선 캡슐에서 나와서 우주 유영을 하는 모습을 팝업그림으로 보여줍니다.
오른쪽 면의 플랩을 위와 아래로 열면 어린 아이 키만한 83cm 길이의 커다란 다단계 로케트가 모습을 드러내며, 중간 중간의 플랩들을 열면 각각의 추진체를 연결하는 로케트의 내부모습을 보여줍니다.
3. 스페이스 캡슐과 달탐사 프로그램
세번째 장에는 달 탐사를 위한 아폴로 프로그램을 자세히 소개하며, 달로 향해 날아가는 스페이스 캡슐을 보여줍니다. 플랩을 열면 스페이스 캡슐의 내부 모습도 자세히 볼 수 있습니다. 오른쪽 면 아래쪽의 탭을 당기면 우주선이 도킹하는 모습을 움직이는 그림으로 보여줍니다.
4. 달의 모습과 각국의 우주경쟁 역사
오른쪽의 접힌 면을 180도 반대쪽으로 젖히면 둥그런 달의 모습이 완전한 구의 입체적인 형태로 모습을 드러내며, 달의 지명과 우주선들이 착륙했던 지역도 자세히 표시되어 있습니다. 아울러 1960년부터 미국과 소련을 중심으로 본격화된 우주 경쟁의 역사도 자세히 소개합니다.
5. 우주조종사와 우주복
우주조종사의 선발과 훈련, 우주에서의 생활, 아폴로 11호에 탑승했던 3명의 우주조종사 등을 자세히 소개하며, 우주인이 입는 최첨단 우주복의 모습을 입체적으로 보여줍니다. 뒷면의 플랩을 ?� 우주인들이 등에 매고 다니는 생명유지장치의 내부모습도 볼 수 있습니다. 오른쪽에 꽂혀 있는 소책자에는 아폴로 1호부터 17호까지 탑승했던 우주조종사 36명의 프로필이 수록되어 있습니다.
6. 달 착륙
달에서 바라보는 푸른 지구의 모습이 실려 있는 마지막 장의 오른쪽 페이지를 열어서 오른쪽으로 당기면 이 책의 하이라이트인 달착륙 모습을 입체적인 팝업그림으로 보여줍니다. 달착륙선의 사실적이고 정교한 모습도 입체적으로 펼쳐집니다.

This is a handsome, carefully engineered compendium. The text begins with the so-called space race between the United States and the Soviet Union in the l950s and '60s and then offers brief descriptions of the 17 flights that made up the Apollo program. Here the emphasis is on the famous landing of the Eagle on the Moon in July 1969. The pop-ups and foldout pages on sturdy, shiny paper demonstrate the mechanical aspects of the spacecraft and offer a bold sense of both the rocketry and the trip. Small photographs and drawings surround the larger views. On a few pages a small booklet of information is tucked into a slotted page. With just one pop-up per spread accompanied by other engineered elements, the pages pack considerable information about the Moon and the human experience in traveling to it in both the visual material and the text. Unfortunately, the book lacks acknowledgments of authority. Some pages would be attractive exhibit views, but children will surely want hands-on reading of the book. It's a first-rate choice.
