"Make Way for Ducklings", "Time of Wonder" 의 작가 Robert McCloskey(1914-2003) 의 또 다른 작품이네요.
'단색 색연필로 그린 그림'은 아기 오리들을 다룬 "Make Way for Ducklings" 의 화풍 그대로이구요.
'Maine 주의 바닷가 풍경과 동물들(clams, mussels, fish hawks, loons, sea gulls, seals)'은 바닷가 한여름 밤의 폭풍우를 묘사했던 "Time of Wonder" 그대로입니다.
Robert McColskey 의 글은 항상 여유롭고, 자연친화적이며, 또 교육적이네요.
젖니갈 때, 미국에선, 헌 이를 베게 아래 두면(put your tooth under your pillow) 이빨요정이 가져가는데, 이 때 소원을 빌면(make a wish) 이뤄진다고 하네요.
갖고 싶은게 많은 아이들에게, 흔들거리는 젖니를 무심코 삼켜버리거나(swallow it) 하지 못하도록 만드네요.
'이빨'과 '점화 플러그(spark plugs)'는 새 걸로 갈아줘야 좋은가봐요.
