코믹한 표현들이 많은 가운데, 위험수위 높은 험담도 나오네요. ^^;;
코골며 조는 가족들에 실망하며 내뱉는 말입니다.
"How can I go on living under the same roof with such nincompoops?"
슬픈 엄마는 이렇게 소리칩니다, 꿈에.
"If I don't see my angel again soon," his mother wailed, "I'll shoot myself !"
놔달라고 하자, 입닥치라고 하네요.
"Have a heart, fellas," Zeke pleaded "Give me my harmonica and let me go. You can keep the rest - all of it."
"Listen, porky," the leader snarled, "You'd better shut up your yap if you want th stay in one piece."
보스가 보스다운 말을 'will' 로 끝맺네요.
'will' 은'화자(the leader)의 판단(~일 것이다)'을 나타내는데,
청자(the dalmatian and the hound)가 지위상 화자 아래에 있어서 복종해야하는 관계가 반영되면서,
그들은 화자의 마음을 따라서 화자가 바라는 대로 명시된 일을 하게 될 것이고,
이러한 관계에서 'will' 이 '명령'의 의미를 갖게 된지요.
The dogs began debating how to dispose of him.
"Let's drown him," the dalmatian suggested.
"How about baking him?" said the hound. "We could have baked ham, ham sandwiches, chitlins, pig's knuckles, et cetera."
"Nope, he's too darned fat," said the leader. "We'll just leave him here, nicely tied up."
