James Marshall created dozens of picture books and novels, each infused with sly wit, charm, exuberance, and humor. "I like my books to flow. I want each page to be something new. That way, you are forced to look. Most of all, I want children to laugh uncontrollably when they read my books," he once said. Mr. Marshall passed away in 1992.
