Book Description
It's time for bed, and Cornelius P. Mud knows what that means - putting his toys away, brushing his teeth, putting his pajamas on, all the things we do every night. Right? Wrong! Bedtime at Cornelius's house is no ordinary event. Whether it's stuffing toys in the fridge or playing rodeo in the bathroom, this plucky piggy has his own ideas. So no, Cornelius isn't quite ready for bed - he's having too much fun!
Children's Literature
Bedtime can be a difficult time for parents and youngsters. So when Cornelius, an appealing young anthropomorphic pig, is asked if he knows what time it is, he says "Yes!" He also answers "Yes!" to the series of questions familiar to parents and kids. "Yes!" he says; he has put his toys away, fed his fish, used the bathroom, brushed his teeth, put on his pajamas, chosen a book. But each question and answer across a double page is matched by an illustration telling a different story: his toys are in the refrigerator, the fish have received a cookie, etc. So when he is asked if he is ready for bed, the answer is "No!" Did he forget something? A hug, of course. Then he is finally ready; or is he? On the back cover he is presenting a puppet show to his stuffed animal friends. Pencils produce the simple shapes of the characters and the few associated objects, while added acrylic paints supply color and lighthearted contextual details. Pencils also add visual fun for older readers by supplying amusing names on cookie boxes ("Yummo Little Bitty Cookies"), books ("Charlotte's Website"), even toothpaste ("Oinkbrite"). Great bedtime fun.
