Each spread introduces a shape in an unusual setting-circles in an alien's house, squares at the underwear museum, etc.-until the final spread where all the shapes introduced are reprised. Parr's illustrations use bright colors and are busy. Kids will have more than fifty flaps to open. As they do so, the lesson is expanded. For example, in the underwear museum, the squares are different colors and the flap when lifted displays the name of the color. Since this format is repeated for each shape, kids should be pretty knowledgeable about colors after a few times through this book.

Todd Parr serves up more flap-book fun with two new titles. The Silly Book of Shapes takes kids on a tour of Toddworld while introducing them to new geometric shapes under 50 flaps. Alien Vark's head is a "green circle," for instance, and Todd's pizza is a "yellow triangle." It's a Colorful World! follows a similar format, emphasizing colors. Opening the flap atop Stella's yellow shoes reveals the same shoes but with red bows and green polka-dots.
