흰 눈이 펑펑 내리고 나무들은 낙엽이 떨어져 앙상하기만 합니다. 추운 겨울이 왔네요. 호기심 많은 토끼는 다른 동물들이 어떻게 겨울을 나는지 자세히 관찰합니다.
청둥오리들은 떼를 지어서 따뜻한 곳으로 날아가고,
곰가족은 동굴 속에서 겨울잠을 자고,
거북이들은 따뜻한 물이 있는 곳으로 헤엄쳐 가고,
양들은 두꺼운 털옷으로 갈아 입고,
다람쥐들은 겨울 동안 먹을 도토리를 잔뜩 모아놓고,
사슴들은 먹이가 있는 곳으로 멀리 여행을 가고,
악어들은 겨울 내내 죽은 듯이 움직이지 않고 가만히 있으며,
들쥐들은 부지런히 움직이며 스스로 몸을 따뜻하게 만듭니다.
하지만 눈이 녹고나무에 꽃이 피기 시작하면, 토끼는 겨울이 가고 봄이 온 것을 알 수 있지요. 그리고 겨울 내내 여기저기 돌아다니며 다른 동물 친구들을 관찰했던 하얀 토끼의 털색은 봄이 되자 예쁜 황갈색으로 변합니다...
