Kate Greenaway상을 수상한 The Wind Blew를 비롯해서, Rosie's walk, Titch, Changes Changes, Good-Night Owl, The Doorbell Rang 등 수많은 베스트셀러 그림책의 저자인 Pat Hutchins의 작품입니다. 국내에서는 "로지의 병아리"라는 제목으로 번역서가 출간된 명작그림책입니다.

글은 짧고 단순하지만, 그림은 "Rosie’s Walk"과 마찬가지로 긴장과 해소를 반복하며 유쾌한 이야기를 만들어냅니다. 노랑과 빨강, 초록, 갈색의 단순하지만 선명한 색, 섬세한 선과 복잡한 배경을 생략한 흰 여백이 조화를 이루는 그림은 꼼꼼하게 관찰하는 재미가 있습니다.

Baby chick is still wearing half of his shell over his head and walking around blindly. Rosie does not even recognize him, but an unfriendly fox does and begins following close behind. The captivating illustrations are like a bright quilt of colors and patterns, with humor tucked in for observant readers. The text alone is not sufficient to tell this easy story. Readers will see the dangers and want to warn the chick and try to convince Rosie to turn around to find her baby. But all ends well. This would be a great choice for sharing during the changing seasons. VERDICT A charming sequel to the classic Rosie's Walk and an appealing read-aloud for all collections.
