As they wear themselves out with all the reptilian roughhousing, their numbers dwindle the perfect way to introduce subtraction to very young children. Finally, there are only two grouchy dinosaurs left. One is taken home, so then there is one. The very last sleepy dinosaur snuggles down, but a loud surprise awaits him. His nine prehistoric pals plan a noisy reunion their last trick! The bright colors, rhyming text, and silly characters in this book make for jolly family lap reading. Children's Literature
This counting book features funny, benign-looking dinosaurs so colorfully rendered they're sure to be a hit. Ten dinosaurs dance and cavort so mischievously that the group finally dwindles to one. Bold print and the use of rhyme add to the charm. - Meredith Kiger
School Library Journal
In this countdown concept book, whimsically drawn dinosaurs engage in childlike activities as they push and shove one another, dance, throw tomatoes, stomp on the floor, swing from a tree, and so on. One creature is eliminated for an amusing reason during each activity until only one is left, exhausted and napping. The book ends as his friends sneak up on him and all yell, "ROAR!" The double-page spreads of brightly colored, cartoonlike, generic dinosaurs with mischievous expressions are placed on white paper with little or no backgrounds. The generous white space emphasizes the action of the cavorting reptiles and sets off the large, clear typeface. The rhyming text is lively to read aloud, and young children will enjoy the boisterous characters.Patricia Pearl Dole, formerly at First Presbyterian School, Martinsville, VA
