Book Description
Explore the wonders of things that grow! These Fold Out and Find Out books have pages that open and transform before your eyes. Frog eggs are floating in the pond, but how will they grow? Each shaped page shows a different stage: eggs hatching into tadpoles, the appearance of back and front legs in froglets, and finally, disappearing tails. Now the frogs are ready to hop up for air, onto the lily pads formed by the opened book.
Children's Literature
Follow five frog eggs through their development, from egg to tadpole to full-grown frog. With a unique approach to the worn-out subject of frogs, the pages of this book fold out to make a lily-pad covered pond, one page at a time. Each stage of the development of a frog is portrayed in subdued, cool-colored illustrations and accompanied by a short, singsong poem. When every page has been unfolded, the center of the book reveals instructions for hatching your own tadpoles, which is an interesting but odd surprise to reveal in the middle of a novelty book for such young readers. Though at times, the rhymes are awkward or repetitive, the book still manages to maintain a comfortable pace and is a pleasant read. The physical durability of the book is questionable, since the process of refolding the pages can be difficult, particularly when trying to maintain page order, and a young child could easily tear the pages through normal wear and tear. A fun idea, a novel approach, but a rather impractical book as it is unlikely to stand the test of time.
