Spot is a charming puppy, not a tiny one, but a pretty good size. In this book kids get to spend a day at the beach with Spot and his family. His Dad buys him an assortment of toys—pail and shovel, sailboat, and a swimming ring. It is a fun filled day swimming, making sand castles, and even burying his sleeping Dad. Later they go out fishing and Spot falls overboard, but he has his swimming ring (might not be the best flotation security these days). The real highlight of the day is making a new friend and knowing that he can return to the beach to play with her. Lifting the flaps reveals a little extra information about each scene.
