Book Description
A boogie woogie beat is booming through the jungle -- but who's making the music?
Zebra, camel, and their be-bopping friends search for the jungle band. Pull the tabs to move their wooly yarn legs, necks, and feet and see them swing, sway, and groove the dat away as they do the jungle boogie!
Publishers Weekly
Wild animals also feature in the interactive Jungle Boogie by Sally Crabtree, illus. by Patti Jennings. Readers can pull tabs to move yarn legs that make birds' knees bend and giraffes' necks sway to some mysterious music: "From the depths of the jungle one bright and sunny day,/ a tune began to float from the trees far away." Jennings's thick black line and fiesta-bright colors add a suitably hip, jazzy tone.
Children's Literature
Will very young children be confused by all the references to music throughout a book that makes no sound? "Feel the groove! Pull the tabs and make us move!" In this book, pull-tabs between the double-thick pages activate the motion. Birds (pink but not identified), giraffes, a questionable-looking zebra, a camel and three monkeys move back and forth or up and down wiggling bright-colored yarn legs, or necks in the case of the giraffes, as they move. The words can be read in a strong rhythm. For instance, "From the depths of the jungle one bright and sunny day, a tune began to float from the trees far away."
