Spot is a charming puppy, not a tiny one, but a pretty good size. Spot is really excited. Mom has suggested that he and his friend Helen go play in the park. After getting his ball they race off to the park. There are a few mishaps; the ball ends up in a lap and then a pond of water. Fortunately a friendly duck decides to offer some help and brings the ball back to Spot and his friends in this generally pleasant outing. It is a sturdy book with flaps that will hold up well, and one that features character many kids have grown to love.

Another Spot book with large print, dialogue balloons, uncluttered illustrations, and flaps that are easy to lift. The younger crowd will identify with the dog's activities (playing with his ball, on the swings, and with his friends) ; early readers, especially reluctant ones, will also enjoy the interactive format and the minimal text.
