Publishers Weekly
This inventive counting book is jam-packed with information, as each page cleverly incorporates a numeral into a distinctive, energetic scene. (A shower spurts from pipes shaped like the number four; chicks are penned in by hay bales arranged in a figure six.) A simple, primarily pictorial legend beneath each illustration identifies the numeral and designates objects of the same number that can be counted in the picture. For example, a tree in the ``5'' legend indicates that five trees appear in the art. Sloat's ( From Letter to Letter ) ingenious, whimsical drawings depict an amazing variety of locales, from barnyard to desert to museum (old dinosaur bones form ``30'') to school locker room, and feature appropriate situations and subject matter for each. Readers will pore over the fine details, enjoying the sly humor and relishing the challenge of counting 70 bumblebees or 90 gold nuggets.

School Library Journal
In this well-conceived counting book, Sloat makes readers aware of the groupings of objects all around them. The items to count are shown in individual story scenes crammed with action rather than isolated on the page. Below each picture runs a band showing the numeral--as well as its written name--and the things to seek out. She covers the numbers 1 to 10 and then by 10s to 100. The artist's style is more like that of Steven Kellogg than Anno so look for lots of humor worked into each drawing from 5 otters stealing 5 sets of clothes from campers to 70 bees swarming among 70 hot-air balloons and zeroing in on one with a sunflower design. There are tons of other clever details worked in throughout the book. Sloat gets her ideas across handsomely and appears to have had fun doing it. Children will certainly enjoy following her lead.

Book Description
In this ingenious counting book, more than 2,500 items are imaginatively arranged in a dazzling display of detail, color and inventiveness.
