Rainbow Fish & Friends kicks off with a quartet of titles by Gail Donovan, illus. by David Austin Clar Studio, that introduce the students in Miss Cuttle's underwater class. Tug mimics everything Rainbow Fish does in The Copycat Fish and then gets separated from the class on a field trip in Lost at Sea. Angel challenges Puffer's exaggerated stories in A Fishy Story; and no one can agree on what makes something a treasure in Hidden Treasures. Each book features a holographic foil-stamped cover (though no glitter appears inside) plus a sheet of full-color holographic foil stickers.
Children's Literature
Rainbow Fish seems to be a bit upset. Little Tug seems to copy everything that he does and the others began to call him a copycat fish. When the teachers teams up Rainbow Fish and Tug to work on their gardening project, he just can't believe his bad luck. It is so distracting that he doesn't even create a pretty garden, but Tug has an idea. He also tells rainbow Fish that he only copies because he thinks Rainbow Fish has such great ideas and whatever he does seems like fun. The two end up being pals and Tug even manages to teach Rainbow Fish a few tricks. The story has a message and it comes through loud and clear.
