A "gift" edition of this team's 2000 revision of the 1969 book, this is smaller in size (7 x 7") and has slightly rearranged the order of some fears while eliminating a few. More a list than a story, this acknowledges the fears that reside in all of us, no matter our age. The majority deal with children's very real concerns (not being chosen for a team, being hugged by someone you don't like, watching too much hair being cut off, discovering your best friend has a different best friend or is moving away, growing up). Heide's few, well-chosen words capture the child's voice. Feiffer's cartoons hover between scary and funny and capture the truth of each situation while pacing the book. The panicked child appears on each page. Picture size is varied to add interest. Certainly not a necessary purchase if the original 2000 is owned, this is merely an alternative.
