Book Description
Miss Cuttle's class is putting on a play! Rosie is convinced that she and Pearl will make great rescuers, but Pearl has other-much bigger-ideas. Is she brave enough to tell her bossy big sister what she wants? Rainbow Fish helps Pearl find a way.
Children's Literature
Miss Octavia Cuttle, a pearl-clad octopus, teaches a "school" of fish. Her students are preparing a play. As parts are assigned, the classmates assume Puffer will play the part of the sea dragon because he can puff up to appear big and fierce. They also assume that tiny Pearl will paint scenery. Both fish are unhappy with their assignments; Puffer suffers from stage fright and diminutive Pearl aspires to be the sea dragon. When practice goes badly, Rainbow Fish, the director, confers with Miss Cuttle. The next day, Puffer is reassigned to the off-stage duty of narrator, and Pearl assumes the sea dragon role. Despite their classmates' misgivings, the play is a success. The fish learn a lesson about the problems of stereotyping.
