Piggy's activities with Dad include playing with a ball, finding that Piggy has drunk all the lemonade he was trying to sell, having a water balloon fight, and sledding.
Children's Literature
Piggy and his dad are enormously likeable characters who share fun, antics and, obviously, lots of love. Very young children will feel confident trying to read, thanks to the short sentences, contextual clues and the well-designed introductions, which adults are to read aloud prior to each of four little stories. The excellent, colorful illustrations are the perfect complement to the simple text, and add subtle humor, which is, perhaps, the greatest strength of the book. Like the others in the innovative "Brand New Readers" series, there is a page at the very beginning intended to guide the adult reader. The common-sense advice includes tips like placing a finger under each word, giving the child time to work things out, and providing many chances and lots of praise. The pages are nice and thick, and the book is a sturdy, small format, making it ideal for kids to carry around. A completely feel-good book that will be especially well-received by dads who love to read with their kids.
