[ 책 소개 ]
The Tale of Despereaux와 Because of Winn-Dixie로 2차례 Newbery상을 수상한 저명한 아동문학가 Kate DiCamillo가 글을 쓰고, 베스트셀러 그림책인 Diary of a Fly와 Diary of a Spider의 Illustrator인 Harry Bliss가 그림을 그린 재미있는 책입니다.

서커스단에 들어가서 새로운 모험의 세계를 경험하는 루이즈. 이번에는 아슬아슬한 공중 외줄타기 묘기를 보여주네요. 하지만 땅 밑에서 사자 한 마리가 우리를 뛰쳐 나오자, 놀란 루이즈는 그만 줄에서 떨어져서 사자 입으로 들어갈 위기에 처합니다. 가까스로 위험을 모면한 루이즈는 목숨을 건 대포묘기 제안을 거절하고 안락한 농장으로 돌아갑니다.
3편 : Louise Unbound
모험을 떠난 루이즈가 도착한 곳은 머나먼 나라의 시장이었습니다. 그곳에서 닭장수에게 붙잡혀서 좁은 닭장에 다른 닭들과 함께 갇히는 신세가 됩니다만, 루이즈는 닭은 자유롭게 거닐 권리가 있다고 주장하네요. 하루 종일 자물통을 쪼아서 마침내 닭장 문을 여는데 성공한 루이즈는 다른 닭들을 모두 탈출시키고 머나먼 길을 되돌아가서 마침내 안락한 농장에 도착합니다.
4편 : And She Did
농장에 돌아온 루이즈는 다른 닭들을 모아 놓고 그동안 자기가 겪었던 위험하고도 신나는 모험 이야기를 들려 줍니다...

She is captured by hungry pirates, survives a sinking ship, joins the circus, narrowly escapes a lion, is caged with other chickens, picks the lock with her beak, and liberates her fellow captives. Back home in her barnyard, Louise enthralls her sister chickens with the story of her grand exploits, until all fall asleep tucked safely in their henhouse, having felt the vicarious frisson of adventure. In the nicely patterned telling, DiCamillo ends each of Louise's escapades with an old hen asking her where she has been. "Oh, here and there," is Louise's casual answer. Each new chapter begins with the bold brooder still eager to embark anew. Bliss's illustrations depict the settings of Louise's capers in vague antique worlds with various backdrops and in various eras. On every spread, Louise's bright white feathers and brilliant red cockscomb will stand out and draw the eyes of young readers. Smart choices in book design allow for an oversize book that suits its larger-than-life heroine, and vertical spreads that capture Louise's circus high-wire walk to maximum visual effect. This is a jolly metaphor for the stages of childhood in which young children long for short-lived independence and exploration always within the reassuring bounds of a secure home and family.
