이번에는 민가 주위에서 토끼 한마리를 발견하고는 어둠의 그늘 속에서 살금살금 다가갑니다만, 나무가지를 밟는 바람에 눈치를 챈 토끼가 날쌔게 도망을 갑니다.
계속 먹이 사냥에 실패하는 동안, 어느새 별들은 사라지고 하늘이 밝아 옵니다. 연못가에 다달은 코요테는 주택가 마당에 있는 한 무리의 칠면조떼를 발견합니다. 이번에는 동작이 느린 칠면조를 손쉽게 사냥한 코요테는 온 가족이 배불리 먹을 수 있다는 생각에 새벽 하늘로 머리를 치켜들고는 기쁨의 환호성을 지릅니다. 어미의 울음소리를 들은 코요테 가족들도 저멀리서 맞장구를 치며 기쁨의 울음소리를 냅니다. 코요테의 울음소리를 들은 소녀가 이층 창문을 열고 코요테를 노려보내요. 이제 아침햇살이 하얀색 나무울타리를 핑크색으로 물들입니다.
칠면조를 물고 집으로 돌아온 어미 코요테는 새끼들을 먹입니다. 배가 부른 코요테 가족은 달이 그들을 다시 깨울 때까지 깊은 잠에 빠져듭니다....

Readers looking for straightforward facts won't find them within the text; the dynamic and richly detailed illustrations are what tell the story here.
