오직 책을 읽고 싶은 열망으로 열다섯 어린 나이에 점자를 만든 눈먼 소년 루이 브라유의 이야기입니다. 비록 캄캄한 어둠 속에 갇히게 되었지만 좌절하지 않고 끊임없이 노력하여, 자신과 같이 앞을 볼 수 없는 사람들에게 세상과 연결하는 지식의 문을 열어 준 어린 발명가의 이야기가 가슴 뭉클한 감동을 줍니다.
루이 브라유가 앞을 볼 수 없게 된 것은 겨우 다섯 살 때였습니다. 마구 만드는 기술자였던 아버지의 작업장에서 호기심에 만진 송곳에 찔려 시력을 잃게 된 것입니다. 하지만 루이는 영리한 아이였고, 무엇보다 눈이 보이는 다른 사람들과 똑같이 배우며 살기를 간절히 원했습니다. 루이의 가족들과 마을 신부님이 그런 루이를 도왔습니다.
