펭귄은 비록 새지만 육지를 달리거나 물속을 헤엄칠 수는 있어도 하늘을 날 수는 없지요.
하지만 이 책의 주인공인 펭귄은 너무나도 하늘을 날고 싶어서 새들에게 나는 법을 가르치는 비행학교를 찾아갔어요.
펭귄은 여러주 동안 다른 새들과 함께 열심히 나는 법을 훈련했어요.
그리고 마침내 다른 새들은 하늘을 나는데 성공했지만, 펭귄은 아무리 날개짓을 해도 물 속으로 풍덩!
너무 낙담한 펭귄은 선생님 새들에게 작별을 고하고 집으로 돌아 가려고 해요.
이 모습을 본 선생님들은 펭귄이 하늘을 날 수 있는 좋은 아이디어가 떠올랐어요.
펭귄의 작은 날개에 깃털을 다닥다닥 붙인 후, 날개짓을 해보라고 시켰어요.
파닥파닥... 날개짓을 하자 갑자기 펭귄의 몸이 하늘로 붕 올라갔어요.
펭귄에게 무슨 일이 일어난 걸까요? 펭귄은 역사상 처음으로 하늘을 날 수 있게 된 걸까요? 펭귄이 하늘을 날 수 있도록 도와주는 다른 새들의 노력이 훈훈한 감동을 줍니다.
