꼬마 별이가 엄마 몰래 커다란 달케이크를 한 입씩 베어 물 때마다 하늘 한복판에 두둥실 떠 있던 둥근 보름달은 반달로, 초승달로 그믐달로 조금씩 작아집니다. 그러고는 다시 초승달로, 반달로, 그리고 환한 보름달로 가득 차오르기를 반복합니다. 밤하늘에 두둥실 떠오른 보름달을 커다란 ‘달케이크’에 비유한 그레이스 린은 그녀만의 기발하고 다채로운 상상력으로 달케이크를 한 입씩 베어 무는 별이의 모습을 통해 주기에 따라 모양이 변화하는 달의 모습을 흥미롭게 그려냈습니다. 이처럼 누구나 한 번쯤 해 보았을 법한 즐거운 발상은 아이들에게는 흥미와 재미를 이끌어 내며, 어른들에게는 어렸을 적의 추억을 되새기게 해, 아이와 어른 모두를 매료시킵니다.
