[ 책 소개 ]
가장 제목이 긴 책중의 하나입니다.(글자수만 총 97자) 미국 교사선정 100대 서적인 "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day"의 저자 Judith Viorst가 글을 쓰고 Kay Chorao가 펜을 이용해서 재미있는 그림을 그렸습니다.
"나는 귀신, 괴물, 유령, 드라큘라 등이 창문밖이나, 옷장속에 숨어 있는 것 같아 무섭습니다. 때로는 이상한 소리들이 들리기도 하지요. 엄마에게 이런 얘기를 하면 그 때마다 엄마는 이 세상에 그런 귀신이나 괴물은 존재하지 않는다고 단언하시지요. 하지만 엄마의 말씀이 항상 맞는 것일까요. 얼마전 샌드위치에 발라먹을 크림치즈가 다 떨어졌다고 말씀하셨지만 내가 냉장고속의 상추 밑에 있는 크림치즈를 발견한 적이 있거든요. 엄마는 이 세상에 드라큘라는 없다고 말씀하시지만 어떻게 엄마말을 100% 믿을 수 있겠어요. 엄마는 내 흔들리는 이빨이 목요일에 빠질 거라고 말씀하셨지만 토요일 점심때까지도 빠지지 않았거든요. 엄마도 실수를 하시거나 말이 맞지 않는 경우는 이 외에도 많이 있어요. 그러니 아무리 엄마가 이 세상에는 내가 무서워하는 그런 괴물들이 없다고 말씀하셔도 믿을 수가 없답니다. 그러나... 엄마가 이불 속에서 나를 꼭 껴안아 주실 때에는 정말 엄마 말씀대로 이 세상에는 무서운 귀신이나 괴물이 있을 거라는 생각이 들지 않는답니다."
자아에 대해 눈을 뜨기 시작하면서 나름대로 고집이 생기기 시작하는 미운 일곱살 전후의 어린아이 심리가 재미있게 묘사되어 있습니다.
