1968년 Caldecott Medal을 받은 작품입니다.
사병, 상병, 하사관, 장교, 지휘관, 장군, 그리고 북을 치는 Hoff 등 모두 7명의 군인들이 힘을 합쳐 커다란 대포를 만듭니다. 그리고 군악대원 Hoff가 대포를 발사합니다. 전쟁이 멈추고 그 대포에는 아름다운 꽃이 피어나고 새들과 거미, 그리고 각종 곤충들의 보금자리가 되었습니다.
처음 한 문장 부터 시작해서 점차 대포가 완성되어가는 순서에 따라 새로운 문장이 더해지는(A cumulative) folk song입니다.
