아주 먼 옛날에는 이 세상에는 이야기가 없었어요. 모든 이야기는 하늘의 신 니야메(Nyame)가 갖고 있었죠. 거미줄을 만들어 내는 아난스(Ananse)라는 노인은 이야기를 이 세상에 갖고 오고 싶었어요. 그는 하늘까지 짠 거미줄을 타고 올라가 하늘의 신을 만나 이야기를 달라고 요청했지요. 하지만 하늘의 신은 다음 세가지를 잡아오면 이야기를 주겠다고 했어요.
첫번째는 무시무시한 이빨이 있는 표범 오세오(Osebo),
두번째는 불침을 쏘는 말벌 믐보로(Mmboro),
그리고 마지막으로는 사람의 눈에는 결코 보이지 않는 요정 므모아티아(Mmoatia)를 데리고 오라고 했습니다.
노인은 지상으로 내려와서 기발한 아이디어로 이 세가지를 모두 붙잡는데 성공합니다. 노인이 이 세가지에 대해 사용한 방법들은 무엇일까요?
그림속에 녹아있는 아프리카의 토속적인 아름다움과, 강조와 반복을 이용하는 Story Telling 방법이 잘 드러난 작품입니다.
