[ 책 소개 ]
2020년 Caldecott 수상도서인 "Bear Came Along"을 함께 만든 Richard T. Morris(글)과 LeUyen Pham(그림) 두 유명작가의 또 하나의 콜라보 작품입니다. 내용이 쉽고 유머러스해서 부담없이 즐길 수 있는 책입니다.
서양에서는 잠이 오지 않을 때 양들이 울타리를 뛰어 넘는 것을 상상하면서 숫자를 센다고 합니다. 양 한마리, 양 두마리, 양 세마리, 양 네마리, 양 다섯마리...
이 책의 주인공도 잠이 오지 않아서 울타리를 뛰어 넘는 양들의 숫자를 세고 있는데, 101번째 양이 울타리를 넘다가 몸통이 끼어버리는 사고가 발생했어요. 그리고 마지막 양인 102번째 양이 울타리에 끼어있는 101번째 양을 뛰어 넘어서 가버리자, 더 이상 울타리를 뛰어 넘을 양이 없었어요.
이 때 소환된 103번째 동물은 동요 Hey Diddle Diddle에서 달을 뛰어 넘는 소였어요. 그 후에는 104번째로 Little Piggy, 105번째로 Blind Mouse, 106번째로 Humpty Dumpty 등 전래 동요 속의 주인공들이 차례로 울타리를 뛰어넘기 위해 등장합니다. 하지만 모두들 101번째 양에 가로 막혀서 울타리를 뛰어 넘지 못하고 있었어요. 이때 101번째 양을 구해주려고 장난감 샌드맨들이 헬리콥터를 타고 나타났어요. 그런데 이런이런... 전혀 예상치 못한 일이 벌어졌네요. 울타리에 끼어 있던 101번째 양이 깊은 잠에 빠져 버렸어요....
이 책의 문장들은 쉽고 유머러스하며, 그림도 재미있게 그려져서 어린 아이들이 부담없이 즐 길수 있습니다.
