나비는 보기에 아름답다고 하지만, 파리인 나도 엄마는 내가 제일 예쁘다고 하셔.
애벌레 시절에 나비는 온갖 식물들의 잎과 꽃들을 먹어치워서 인간에게 피해를 입히지만, 파리는 더러운 쓰레기나 상한 음식들을 먹기 대문에 오히려 환경을 깨끗이 하는데 도움을 줘.
비행 능력은 파리가 나비보다 월등하게 뛰어나. 나비는 1초에 날개짓을 5~12회 밖에 못하지만, 파리는 무려 200회나 할 수 있고, 파리는 평형추같은 것이 달려 있어서 균형을 잃지 않고 자유자재로 회전할 수 있는 능력도 지니고 있어...."
이렇게 파리는 아이들에게 자신에 대해서 열심히 변명하지만, 더럽거나 썩은 음식, 배설물들을 식량으로 하다보니 본의아니게 몸에 수많은 병균을 지니고 다녀서 인간들에게 수많은 질병을 일으키게 된다는 점에 대해서는 변명의 여지가 없다고 이실직고 합니다.
이 외에도 이 책은 파리에 대해 사람들이 갖고 있는 잘못된 편견들을 하나하나 깨트려 주고, 파리가 지니고 있는 놀라운 Facts들을 자세히 알려줍니다. 무엇보다도 파리가 인간에게 해만 끼치는 것은 아니고, 자연의 청소부 역할을 해서 환경을 깨끗이 하는데 기여한다는 새로운 사실도 알려줍니다.
