[ 책 소개 ]
두차례 Caldecott상을 수상한 Paul Galdone이 그린 그림책으로 내용은 유령이야기입니다.
아주 오래전에 있었던 이야기입니다. 깊고 깊은 숲속의 외진곳에 한 노인이 초라한 오두막에 살고 있었습니다. 노인은 개 세마리를 키우고 있었습니다. 어느날 개들과 함께 사냥을 하고 있는데 바람이 심상치않게 불고... 노인은 비쩍 마른 토끼 한 마리밖에 잡지 못했지만 별수없이 집에 돌아왔습니다. 토끼를 요리해서 먹고 의자에 편히 앉아 쉬고 있었습니다. 노인이 막 잠들려는 찰나 통나무 벽의 갈라진 틈 사이로 아주 이상한 물체가 나오는 것이 보였습니다. 그것은 크고 길고 털이 수북히 난 꼬리였습니다. 노인은 도끼를 들고 야수의 꼬리를 잘라버렸습니다. 야수가 달아난 후, 배가 고팠던 노인은 잘라낸 꼬리를 요리해서 먹고 기분좋게 잠을 청했습니다. 하지만.... 이때부터 노인에게 일어날 일이 걱정되는군요. 과연 어떤 일이 생길까요?..........
