[ 책 소개 ]
Kevin Henkes의 Caldcott 수상작 "Owen"의 주인공인 귀여운 친구 Owen이 이 책에서는 노란 담요를 들고 나옵니다. 부활절 아침에, 오웬은 한바구니 가득 맛있는 캔디와 과자를 받았습니다. 모두 맛있어 보여서 무엇을 먼저 먹어야 할지 망설이다가, 오웬은 "내가 가장 좋아하는거야(My favorite!)"라고 혼자말을 하면서 제리사탕을 가장 먼저 먹었지요. 하지만 그 다음에도 Gumdrop(젤리모양의 캔디), 달걀 모양의 버터크림, 토끼 모양의 초콜릿을 보면서 "My favorite"라고 얘기하면서 모두 먹어 버립니다. 하지만 마지막 남은 노란색의 병아리 모양을 한 Marshmallow(스펀지같이 폭신폭신한 과자)는 먹지를 않는군요. 오웬이 항상 몸에 지니고 다니는 노란색 담요와 같은 색이어서 특히 좋아하나 봅니다. 오웬은 노란색의 Marshmallow 병아리를 담요에 태우고 다니기도 하고 블럭쌓기할 때 맨 위에 올려 놓기도 하면서 하루종일 즐겁게 갖고 놉니다. 그리고 밤이 되자 Marshmallow 병아리를 장난감 선반 위에 올려 놓고는 굿나잇 키스를 해줍니다...
간결한 문장과 군더더기 없는 그림을 통해서 어린 아이의 심리를 잘 보여주는 Kevin Henkes의 특징이 잘 드러나는 재미있는 그림책입니다.

Oh what joy it is Easter morning and Owen's basket is full. He can't wait to start enjoying all of the goodies. Among his favorites are the jellybeans, which he promptly devours, then the gumdrops, next the butter cream eggs and another favorite, the chocolate bunny. There is only one item left, a yellow marshmallow chick that looks just like his fuzzy yellow blanket. Owen plays with his chick all day and when evening comes, he puts it on his shelf with a sweet kiss goodnight. After all, it really is his favorite Easter treat. A tasty little board book that little ones will savor.

The little mouse is back in this charming board book. Owen cannot resist any of the goodies in his Easter basket except for the yellow marshmallow chick, which happens to be the same color and texture as his cherished blanket. Instead of eating it, he plays with it, smiles at it, and finally puts it on his shelf and kisses it good night. Henkes has kept the text short, simple, and rich. His illustrations are also simple, uncluttered yet full of winsome expression. A sweet friendship story for toddlers and preschoolers.
