데이지는 터진 공을 보고는 처음에는 놀라고 황당한 표정을 짓다가, 도저히 믿어지지 않는다는 표정, 분노의 표정, 슬픈 표정, 그리고 낙담한 표정까지... 데이지의 표정의 변화가 독자들 마저도 안타까운 마음이 들게 하네요.
그 후로 언제나 소파에 누워서 삶의 낙을 잃어 버린 듯이 무표정하게 지내는 데이지... 그런데 주인과 같이 그 공원으로 다시 산보를 갔다가, 빨간 공을 물어서 터트렸던 개와 그 주인을 만납니다. 그리고 그 개의 주인은 데이지를 위해서 특별한 선물을 가지고 왔네요...
